Red-flowering Currant
(Ribes sanguineum)

The Red-flowering Currant is the harbinger of spring, being one of earliest blooming plants. The early March arrival of the Rufus Hummingbird usually coincides with the blooming of the Red-flowering Currant, who feeds on the plant's nectar. The berries are edible, but somewhat insipid.
