One knows that Spring has truly arrived when the Shooting Star has appeared. The nodding flowers with the pedals sweeping to the rear is reminiscent of a shooting star. There is a more broad-leafed variety (Broad-leafed Shooting Star, D. hendersonii)  that grows commonly on San Juan Island. Photo by Richard W. Wright.
