Striped Coralroot (Corallorhiza striata)

The Striped Coralroot is widespread, but uncommon in the San Juan Islands. The flower is quite showy with candycane stripes. The coralroot is saprophytic, drawing its nutrients from decaying material. It is usually found under the canopy of dense woodlands. Photo by Richard W. Wright.
